I am delighted to have won the ‘bead weaving’ category of the Glass Beadmakers UK jewellery competition for a second time – with a necklace incorporating handmade lampwork by no fewer than four different glass artists.
The awesome ‘sea urchin’ focal is by Lesley McFarland and the spotty stripy ‘Nemo’ beads are by Emma Ralph – they made me think of funny little animals swimming around in a rockpool. The encased ‘Terra’ beads are by Sally Carver (I knew I’d been hoarding them for something special!) and the glass ring I used for the clasp is from Becky Fairclough.
A big thank you to all of them for making such inspiring materials for me to work with!
I encased a wooden bead with tiny starfish and had fun creating beaded ‘coral’, a very tactile fringed ‘urchin’ and an assortment of spiky ‘plankton’ beads. They are strung together with seeds, pearls, seed beads and stone beads and fasten with a beaded toggle.
And of course there is a luscious beaded tassel at the bottom!
